The life and career of acclaimed Nevada author and journalist Robert Laxalt are captured in Robert Laxalt: The Story of a Storyteller. Laxalt's 17 books include The Governor's Mansion and The Basque Hotel.

Warren Lerude is author of Robert Laxalt: The Story of a Storyteller, published this year by the Center for Basque Studies in Reno.

The book chronicles the life and writing of Bob Laxalt, a defining voice for Nevada writers and Western literature. Laxalt published 17 books, including both fiction and nonfiction, along with countless articles for many magazines and newspapers.

Laxalt's 1957 classic Sweet Promised Land tells the story of his father Dominique, who came to America from France as a teenager and became a sheepherder in Nevada. The book also shares the story of Dominique's journey back to his Basque homeland nearly half a century later.

Lerude is a professor emeritus for the University of Nevada, Reno Reynolds School of Journalism, as well as a Pulitzer Prize-winning editorial writer.
