Nevada Poetry Out Loud competition.

On Saturday, March 24, students from around the state will convene in Reno to compete in the Seventh Annual Nevada Poetry Out Loud State Finals, with the winner advancing to the national competition in May. The poetry recitation program encourages students not only to discover poetry, but also the dynamic experience of the spoken word.

Students Adriana Avitia, a senior at Carson City High, and Katie Lynn Ibershoff, a sophomore at Reno's Rainshadow Community Charter High School, join us to recite their poems and talk about the competition.

Other guests include: Susan Boskoff, Executive Director of the Nevada Arts Council (NAC); Jill Berryman, President of the Nevada Alliance for Arts Education; and Karen Chandler, drama teacher at Carson City High.

Poems performed on this program:

Adriana Avitia:
Abandoned Farmhouse by Ted Kooser
A Fit of Rhyme against Rhyme by Ben Jonson

Katie Lynn Ibershoff:
Luna Baedeker by Mina Loy
