Beyond the Headlines: We Think Local Campaign & 20 Years of the Tour de Nez
Listen to the story
SEGMENT 1 & 2:
This week community leaders launched the "We Think Local" campaign saying just a 10 percent increase in local business could create some 2,500 jobs and put more than $300 million dollars back into the local economy.
On this edition of Beyond the Headlines: Thinking local. We'll talk about the new campaign and some of the localism initiatives already being done in Reno-Sparks. Our guests: Nancy McCormick with EDAWN; Washoe County Manager Katy Simon; Sharon Zadra, who represents Ward 2 in the Reno City Council; and Randy Pease of the Reno-Sparks CA$H MOB.
We check in with Tim Healion of Reno's premier cycling event - the Tour de Nez - which is celebrating its 20th anniversary. We'll learn about its fundraiser called the Gran Fun-Do, which combines cycling with a game of poker. Plus we learn how the Tour de Nez is planning to grow next year, and how it went from an impromptu bike race among friends at a party to become Reno's premier cycling event.
