Interview: Truckee nonprofit helps snowboarder recover from TBI

Professional Snowboarder Danny Toumarkine continues his recovery from a 2011 traumatic brain injury at the C.R. Johnson Healing Center run by the High Fives Foundation in Truckee.

Professional snowboarder Danny Toumarkine suffered a traumatic brain injury in 2011, leaving him with a ten percent chance of survival. Danny was hospitalized for a month and has endured four brain surgeries.

Even though he no longer competes, Danny is back on the slopes, and he continues to heal with help from the High Fives Foundation in Truckee, which offers grants to winter sports athletes suffering from life-altering injuries.

KUNR's Michelle Bliss spoke to Danny about his injury and recovery for Beyond the Headlines.
