Interview: VOICE program helps disabled young adults land jobs

About fifty students with disabilities in Washoe County have started learning job skills and interacting with local employers post-graduation through the VOICE program.

The VOICE program (Vocational Opportunities for Inclusive Career Education) launched this school year in Washoe County to help local high school graduates with disabilities land competitive jobs. So far, nine of its clients have accepted offers for full-time employment.

The program is a unique partnership between the Washoe County School District and the state. To learn more, KUNR spoke to Kelly Wales, student support services coordinator for the district, along with Mechelle Merrill, the bureau chief for vocational rehab in Nevada.
