Pot operation did not cause Rim Fire, forestry officials report
Listen to the story
A U.S. Forest Service official says the Rim Fire burning in and near Yosemite National Park was not caused by an illicit marijuana operation.
Wednesday, Jerry Snyder explained that the steep canyon does not have a water source available for growers, and investigators have officially ruled out marijuana groves as a possible cause, along with lightning.
Snyder's statement is in response to recent speculation by a local fire chief.
It could take months to figure out what sparked the fire, which has burned more than 370 square miles.
