Reno camp closes after 50 years
Listen to the story
After 50 years in Reno, the "Thisisit" Ranch Day Camp is closing. KUNR's Michelle Bliss visited the camp on its final day as counselors and campers said goodbye.
Over the past fifty years, the "Thisisit" Ranch Day Camp has become known as a local tradition, complete with a swimming pool, trampolines, and ranges for bb gun shooting and archery. The camp is also known for having adult counselors who have a strong background in education and who work to instill the values of teamwork and sportsmanship.
Camp Manager Laura Jordan says today has been difficult for children and adults alike.
"More than one counselor has been in tears. There have been a lot of hugs. We just feel really like a family here, so to think that we won't be able to be together every day of the summer ever again has been weighing heavy on us."
About 50 campers, ages 5-12, attended the final day of the the "Thisisit" Ranch Day Camp.
