School safety and healing after Sparks Middle School shooting
Listen to the story
This was the first week back for students at Sparks Middle School. The investigation is ongoing into last week's shooting, which left the shooter and math teacher Michael Landsberry dead and two students in the hospital.
Police have not released any new information about how and why 7th grader Jose Reyes came to school with a gun.
The Washoe County School District is currently taking stock of its safety procedures, but it's also focusing on the healing process, making students, staff and parents again feel comfortable in their schools.
Washoe County School Board President Barbara Clark and Director of Counseling, Equity and Diversity Katherine Loudon discuss what the district is doing and how it's supporting students in the aftermath of this trauma.
