Nevada is urging state employees and contractors to report the waste and abuse of taxpayer money by calling a fraud hotline.

"You have reached the State of Nevada Department of Administration's Fraud, Waste, and Abuse Hotline."

That's the message you would hear if you called the state's fraud hotline to report a problem, big or small.

"We're looking for maybe embezzlement of state funds or even things as simple as state employees taking time off and not reporting it on their time sheets."

Steve Weinberger is with the department of administration, which sent out a memo this week encouraging anyone who sees inappropriate spending of state funds to speak up.

He says the hotline has been around for years, but state employees rarely call because most don't know it's an option.

In the last legislative session, lawmakers passed a bill requiring the department to better advertise this service.

The hotline number is: 775-687-0150.
