Winter storm to hit during morning commute
Listen to the story
Northern Nevada is bracing for snow Tuesday and single-digit temperatures later this week.
The National Weather Service expects up to ten inches of snow in the higher elevations along with three to six inches in the valleys.
A winter storm warning for heavy snow goes into effect Tuesday from 4 AM to 4 PM for the greater Reno, Carson City, and Minden areas. With the heaviest snowfall expected between 7 and 10 AM Tuesday morning, Meteorologist Edan Lindaman says driving conditions for the morning commute will be dangerous.
"What you can expect is probably decreasing visibility as the cold front comes through, accumulating snow, and then there might be a little bit of rain before the snow starts falling which is going to result in probably some icy conditions."
Drivers are advised to carry tire chains and leave extra time to reach their destinations.
Lindaman expects another storm to drop into the area later this week, which could bring more snow, and she says low temperatures will persist the rest of this week and into next week.
