Hartung Keeps Washoe County Commission Seat In District 4

Vaughn Hartung Campaign

Washoe County Commissioner Vaughn Hartung has been re-elected to a second term. Reno Public Radio’s Noah Glick reports.

The Republican incumbent beat out challenger and former Nevada State Senator Maurice Washington, winning 55 percent of the vote. Hartung says that one of his biggest priorities for his next term is managing growth, especially in residential areas.

“The hard part for Washoe County is that we’ll be adding many, many new homes throughout the county, but services to residential require a lot of money," he says. "And the very difficult part is balancing those services with the amount of taxes.”

This issue was also on voters’ minds at the polls yesterday, including John Klippenstein, a registered Republican.

“How do we grow is an issue in our Truckee Meadows. We don’t want to do the same things we did in the mid-2000's," he says. "Obviously water is an issue at times; we want to make sure we have enough water. Growth is good, but it’s got to be planned and smart.”

Hartung will go on the November general election ballot unopposed. His term will last through 2020.
