Mountain Metro Church Closes Sale On Northern Nevada Middle School

Brad Coman

The sale of a Northern Nevada middle school is bringing in more than $3.5 million for Douglas County Schools. Our contributor Kaleb Roedel of the Northern Nevada Business View reports.

The Kingsbury Middle School has been closed and on the market for over a decade, due to declining Douglas County enrollment at Lake Tahoe.

The 3.5 Million sale has closed to Mountain Metro Church, which means the school no longer belongs to Douglas Country's taxpayers.

According to Nevada law, public property must be sold at the appraised price or higher.

Superintendent Teri White says the sale will allow the school district to assist in several safety and capital projects moving forward in upcoming months.

The new owner plans to develop a Christian-based center for young people ages 5-23.

Kaleb is an award-winning journalist and KUNR’s Mountain West News Bureau reporter. His reporting covers issues related to the environment, wildlife and water in Nevada and the region.
