The Office of the Labor Commissioner announced Friday that Nevada's minimum wage will remain unchanged for the next fiscal year.
Currently, Nevada's minimum wage is $7.25 an hour with employer-funded health benefits or $8.25 an hour without them.
Progressive Leadership Alliance of Nevada, or PLAN, recently dropped its proposed ballot measure that aimed to increase the minimum wage to $13 an hour over three years.
PLAN director Bob Fulkerson told our partner KNPR in Las Vegas that the organization abandoned the measure because of a costly lawsuit brought on by some employer groups in the state. PLAN also wants to focus its efforts on the presidential election. However, Fulkerson says there is more than one way to raise the minimum wage.
"We do not need to take this to the ballot in order to raise the minimum wage," Fulkerson said. "The legislature could do it statutorily and that's what we aim to do."
Next door, California employees can expect their minimum wage to reach $15 by 2022.
