One Truckee River Coalition Gathers Community Input

Dana Nollsch/ThisisReno.com

The Truckee River impacts us all. That was the message a coalition of organizations presented at an open house this week to gather community input about the future of the river. Our contributor Bob Conrad of ThisisReno was there and has this story.

Nevada Land Trust Executive Director Alicia Reban says the open house was the first opportunity to see what the One Truckee River group has been working on for the past year.

“We’ve worked to distill some of the critical issues on or along the river and have come up with four overarching goals, and the point of the open house is to lay the goals out to the public, to gather input."

The group will be going to area city councils and the Washoe County commission for adoption of the first phase of improvements.

“Then we move into implementation of the key components,” Reban said. “There really is room for everyone. The Truckee River affects everyone in our region, and we hope that this plan will have all of those voices in it.”

The goals of the projectare to protect water quality, make the river accessible to all and to engage the community.
