Reno City Council unanimously approved an annexation request for a small chunk of Lemmon Valley, just north of the city, at its last meeting. That's despite complaints raised by several nearby residents.

The land is being eyed for development and its owner says the 730 acres would be ideal for new housing.
Several Lemmon Valley residents spoke out last month, calling the move a "land grab" by the city, but Assistant Reno Manager Bill Thomas says that's not so.
"I think it's important for people to understand that this isn't a City of Reno-initiated annexation; this is a response to the private land owner asking for their land to be included in the City of Reno."
Under state law, anyone who owns 100 percent of a property that's contiguous with Reno can ask to join the city.
This request brings to light larger concerns among some North Valleys residents who are seeing their communities grow with large companies setting up shop just north of Reno, including Amazon and Petco which opened facilities there last year.
