A new public art installation went up Thursday at Wingfield Park, as another effort to build the perception of Reno as an arts destination. Contributor Bob Conrad with our media partner ThisisReno has the story.
The sculpture is called The Light Chimes and is the brainchild of Nevada Artist Scott Morgan.
“The Light Chimes uses photographic images to produce lights and colors,” Morgan explains. “If you can imagine wind chimes, only instead of metal rods that produce sound, imagine acrylic rods that produce light.”
That light comes primarily from photographs that Morgan took around Reno.
City Councilmember Naomi Duerr serves was there for the launch. She says that a recent survey of several thousand residents found support for growing the arts in Reno.
“Of course, the City of Reno has many things it needs to address, but art makes the city livable, accessible and meaningful,” she says.
The project cost $9,000 and will remain on display through March.
