UNR Alums Want To Connect Students With Employers

Rocio Hernandez

After noticing how difficult it was to explore Reno’s job market, two University of Nevada, Reno alums decided to come up with a solution. With support from local business leaders, they’ve launched their own online platform called Dringo. Reno Public Radio’s Rocio Hernandez reports that unlike the typical job board, Dringo includes research and project opportunities for students.

Before they were startup founders, George Nicholas and Frank Olson were engineering students and one of their classes required them to build a business. Some of their peers only saw the project as a grade while others took more initiative and worked closely with real, local engineering and manufacturing companies. For those students, the project led to job opportunities post-graduation. Nicholas wants to see that happen for more students.

“After talking with the entrepreneurs association in Reno and The Chamber of Commerce, we realized that this was something that was really wanted in the community in Reno,” Nicolas said.

Co-founder Frank Olson adds that the goal is for students to establish connections with potential employers and show off their skills before the interview.

Dringo launched last month and can be found at dringo.org.
