The Washoe County Board of Commissioners has removed a planning commission member over questions about his impartiality. Our contributor Bob Conrad of ThisisReno has the details.
Planning Commission Member Thomas Daly lost his seat after a 3-2 vote from the board.
At issue was an opinion article Daly wrote last spring for the Reno Gazette-Journal in which he expressed opposition to a development near Mt. Rose highway.
Assistant District Attorney Nathan Edwards said that planning commission members serve a legal role and are meant to be impartial.
He argued that the op-ed compromised Daly's role on the commission and the due process rights of the developer.
During the meeting, Daly said that his op-ed was written in part to encourage residents to be involved in the issue. He also noted his sense of obligation to the constituents of his district, who he described as being vocally opposed to the development.
