Separation Anxiety

Air Date: 04/23/13 Separation anxiety in children is when you're heading off to work and your child cries and screams at the idea of you leaving and so you comfort them until you finally must leave for the day. Toddlers don't always understand that Parents are going to come back until they develop a little further. And surprisingly, little boys suffer from more sensitivity than girls. It's helpful to remember that toddlers learn from routine. When you drop your child off at day care, visit the center a few times beforehand to get him used to the idea. Then, when you say you will be right back, so what you say. Some take more time to warm up than others, but they will learn from the established routine. Hear more on how to help your child through these times of anxiety on this week's edition of Parenting.
