Air Date: 08/28/12 Most of us grew up with traditional ideas of punishing bad behavior and rewarding good behavior. While punishment and reward may get you a short term change in behavior, these methods don't work in the long term. This week, Cheryl offers a brief seminar on consequences. She discusses how children learn functions through natural consequences like becoming hungry when you don't eat. However, there isn't always a natural consequence. When children are disrespectful, that's it. Not much happens. And sometimes intervention must be made to avoid consequences like with children playing in the street. Cheryl talks about when parents step in and what role they play in these different circumstances on this week's edition of Parenting. Parenting with Cheryl Erwine airs every Tuesday morning on 88.7 FM, KUNR, and can be reached at 775-331-6723 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
