Air Date: 12/18/12 Coping with change requires flexibility, skills and confidence. And not all people are especially gifted at these attributes, some lack flexibility or the confidence to head forward into change. The problem is that change is inevitable. Change happens whether someone wants it to or not. For children, the ability to cope with change and bounce back from struggles can be even more difficult because they have less control over their life circumstances. Parents make the decisions. This ability to cope with change and adapt and be flexible is called resilience. And it's one of the most important attributes of successful, content people today. However, many children today are not as resilient as they used to be. There are many reasons for this, but among the most prominent is parents devotion to making certain their children are never disrupted or disappointed. This week, Cheryl discusses where to begin and how to ensure your child develops resilience in their life on this week's edition of Parenting.
