Air Date: 01/08/13 Ask parents what years were the most difficult for them growing up and most will give you the same answer, Middle School. When Cheryl discusses Middle School with children today, most offer the same opinion. The years between 12 and 14 are times of tremendous change for adolescents. And kids encounter these changes around the same time. The brain undergoes a wave of new growth, and for the time, how the brain processes emotions completely changes. Bodies and voices change as well as tastes and ideas. Children need more direction during these years than they used to but they need it in a different way. They need boundaries that are firm, kind, and reasonable, and they need faith and acceptance. Hear more suggestions on helping your kids through these years on this week's edition of Parenting.
