Maybe they don't want their child talking about the mothers spending habits, schedule, or new boyfriend to her ex-husband or her child's therapist. Little do parents know that this creates a significant amount of emotional turmoil on a young child. Furthermore, it teaches children that lying is okay. And what if one day a bad person tells a child "we want to just keep what happened today as a secret between you and me."
