Thursday marked California Democratic Governor Jerry Brown's 16th and final State of the State Address. The 30-minute speech celebrated the governor's success at improving the state's economy over the past seven years, but it also laid out an agenda that focused on climate change and infrastructure repair.

California is the sixth largest economy in the world, based on gross domestic product. And in November, voters legalized recreational marijuana, something that will further diversify the state’s portfolio.

California will vote on whether to legalize recreational marijuana come November. Our California-based reporter Amy Westervelt has that story.

This week, a hospital patient in Sacramento waited in isolation for the results of an ebola blood test. Late last night, the California Department of Public Health announced that the results are in, and they are negative.

Over the past few days, the situation has drawn national attention and Reno Public Radio's Michelle Bliss reports that it has raised questions about the level of threat, if any, ebola poses for the U.S. and here locally in Northern Nevada.
