A recent discovery of a 17th century first folio of William Shakespeare has created excitement and added fuel to a long-standing debate among scholars.

The folio was verified by Eric Rasmussen, who is the Foundation Professor and chair of  the University of Nevada, Reno’s English Department. Professor Rassmussen visited with Provost Kevin Carman and KUNR's David Stipech on Beyond the Headlines (2-6-15).

As the year draws to a close and we reflect on the significant moments of 2014, one that stands out is Eric Rasmussen’s voyage from Reno to a library in France where he identified one of Shakespeare’s original folios last month.

Now, 233 of the 800 first folios have been found, and since no manuscripts by Shakespeare survive, these rare texts have helped preserve many of his plays.
