Moms are usually heartbroken when their daughters become teenagers and turn into little monsters. They are separating their sense of self from their parents and deciding what parts of their personality they want to keep and not keep. It is a valuable experience for children and difficult for parents because many become oppositional. Happily this phase passes, but it takes a substantial amount of time. It is important to maintain ground rules and to do so in a calm controlled manner. Hear more suggestions on this edition of "Relationships."
