KUNR's main transmitter experienced a failure of unknown cause Thursday evening, Aug. 16, and we are operating on our backup

As of Thursday afternoon, Sept. 20, tower climbers have completed our antenna replacement and we are again operating at our full 20,000 watts of power from our main Reno transmitter. This has been an extensive and expensive process, with a cost to KUNR exceeding $50,000 including the antenna itself ($33,000) plus cable and components, structural design, engineering, shipping, tower climbers, tower reinforcement and related installation work. It was August 16 when KUNR's main transmitter antenna on McClellan Peak south of Reno failed without showing prior symptoms that would typically precede such a failure. We are grateful for everyone’s gracious support and patience amid this inconvenience to those listeners in the affected areas.
