TMCC Launches Cyber-Physical Factory

Kyle Dalpe, dean of TMCC's Technical Sciences Division, speaks during a press conference introducing the school's new advanced manufacturing lab on Wednesday, Oct. 24.

Nevada is jumping ahead of the tech curve after the opening of an Industry 4.0 Advanced Manufacturing Lab at Truckee Meadows Community College. KUNR contributor Kaleb Roedel of the Northern Nevada Business View has the details.

With the launch of the lab, TMCC has become the first education provider in the western region to acquire a cyber-physical factory.

The $775,000 factory uses scaled-down, simulated factory processes, from drilling to a thermal station and press, to manufacture a mock product in a completely automated environment.

TMCC says it will use the new equipment in existing associate degree programs and is currently developing a new track in cyber-physical manufacturing, for the fall of 2019.
