The Bison fire near Gardnerville has consumed 17,000 acres and officials do not expect containment until Sunday. Over the weekend, the fire grew substantially and advanced to the northeast of Douglas County. Containment of the fire dropped from 30% to its current containment of 15%.The Sierra Front is reporting the loss of an unknown number of nonresidential structures, however information on what types of buildings and how many is not yet available. Spokesperson Elayn Briggs says they were most likely old mining structures. A voluntary evacuation remains in effect for about 20 nearby homes, and several roads are open only to drivers with proof of residency. Additionally, habitats for sage grouse and black bears are threatened.
