A sneak peek at today's "Beyond the Headlines" conversation about the loss of night and darkness here in Nevada and across the U.S. For many of us, night is when the lights come on in our homes, streets and porches, as well as places like downtown Reno, which light up the sky from miles away. But author and UNR graduate Paul Bogard says now more than 99 percent of people in the United States no longer experience real night, and that's a problem. He has written a book called "The End of Night," which has just been released. He explores the impacts of too much lighting on the environment, our health and the way we experience the natural world. Here's a preview of our conversation, in which Bogard discusses the consequences of lighting on our health, which can range from sleep disorders to cancer.
