Jazmin Orozco Rodriguez
Contributor And Media PartnerJazmin Orozco Rodriguez is a reporter for KHN’s rural health desk based in Elko, Nevada. She explores the ways health issues affect communities in rural areas, including food security, climate change, and agriculture practices. Jazmin joined KHN from The Nevada Independent, where she focused on the state’s Latino and Native American communities.
Before joining The Nevada Independent, Jazmin interned with KUNR Public Radio as a bilingual reporter, focusing on issues within the local Latino community. Also, an alum of NPR's Next Generation Radio Bootcamp fellowship, she created a multimedia project about a local EMT working the night shift for REMSA. Additionally, Jazmin had the opportunity to produce a bilingual short film documentary about a local Latinx drag queen, “Reyna Latina.”
An alumnus of UNR with degrees in journalism and Spanish literature and culture, Jazmin received the Robert Laxalt Distinguished Writer award from the Reynolds School of Journalism in 2019.
Jazmin was born and raised in Reno, and loves spending her free time exploring the Silver State with camping trips that include dips into freshwater lakes and natural hot springs.
