Lesly Virgen-Mariscal

Bilingual student reporter

Lesly Virgen-Mariscal is a first-generation college student at the University of Nevada, Reno pursuing a dual degree in journalism and Spanish with a minor in communications. Lesly strives to bring awareness and exposure to the diverse voices in the region. Lesly enjoys reporting about her community, specifically the Latinx community. As a bilingual reporter for KUNR and Noticiero Móvil, she hopes to tell the stories that are not heard. Lesly is an alumna of Reno Youth Radio Internship Program.

Outside of KUNR, Lesly is involved in Journalism Student Council. She is also a Dean’s Future Scholars mentor for low-income, first generation students in Washoe County School District. In her free time, she enjoys family time, practicing her photography and video skills, and participating in community service opportunities. Lesly is currently Miss Cinco de Mayo 2019 and considers herself an active representative and advocate for the Latinx population in Northern Nevada.
