Interview: GOP Assemblywoman Tolles On 2019 Session

There are currently 52 bills sponsored by Assembly Republicans still alive in the Nevada legislature. Reno Assemblywoman Jill Tolles introduced several of them. She spoke with KUNR's Paul Boger from her office in Carson City about her take on some of that legislation and whether lawmakers have been willing to work in a bipartisan fashion this session.

“I think we’ve continued to see a lot of discussion and bills and movement on things that matter to all Nevadans,” Tolles commented about this session’s female-majority legislature, a national first. “It’s been a good, unifying, bonding thing for everyone in both houses and both parties.”

First elected in 2016, this is Tolles' second session as an assemblywoman. Both terms  she has been a member of the Republican minority. She says lawmakers of both parties are able to work together far more often than it may seem.

“From my perspective, I’ve always tried to build good relationships with individuals on both sides of the aisle and in both houses. I think it’s so important for people to know just how often that really does happen in this building. I know that’s, often times, what we don’t focus on so much.”
