The iconic Harrah family estate in south Reno, known as Rancharrah, has been sold to developers. Reno Public Radio's Michelle Bliss reports that the deal was sealed Monday after months of review.
Construction will kick off this spring for hundreds of homes, along with commercial offices and retail spaces across the sprawling Rancharrah property.
Representatives of the Reno Land Development Company say their goal is to preserve the land's unique heritage by highlighting the Harrah family's 26,000-square-foot mansion and equestrian center as focal points of the future planned community. The nearly 150-acre project was approved this summer by local and regional planning commissions, along with Reno City Council.
Bill Harrah first bought the land back in 1957. His son John has lived there his whole life and says it's time to let all of Reno into Rancharrah.
