Reno Airport Seeing More Passengers

More people are flying in and out of Reno than in years past. Our reporter Marcus Lavergne has the latest update from the Reno-Tahoe International Airport.

More than 3.4 million passengers came through the airport last year, an increase of almost 4 percent over 2014. This is actually the first year-over-year increase since 2005.

Airport CEO Marily Mora says this can be attributed to the growing regional economy, new flights being offered, and heightened efforts to attract tourists.

2015 was also the best year on record for air cargo. The airport handled 138 million pounds of it, which was a 7 percent increase from 2014.

Mora says cargo loads are growing because of the increase in e‐commerce, pharmaceutical, and distribution facilities in Northern Nevada.
