Reno City Council held a short special hearing Tuesday afternoon to approve additional funds to investigate claims against City Manager Andrew Clinger. Our contributor Bob Conrad of ThisisReno has the story.
Allegations against Clinger will get more scrutiny after this meeting, where the city approved an extra $50,000 for a law firm called Kamer Zucker Abbott. Clinger is being accused of misconduct including sexual harassment. He faces four complaints from three female employees.
$50,000 has already been spent on firm, which is charging up to $550 per hour. Another $50,000 was also approved to hire an investigator. With last night's vote, the total cost is now at $150,000.
Only one councilmember commented during the meeting. When questioned if the council was keeping quiet because of legal repercussions, City Attorney Karl Hall said no.
“It was on the agenda, and they made a decision and we're going forward with the investigation."
Hall says that the investigation will be made public and should be finished by mid-October.
