Most major resorts like Squaw Valley, Alpine Meadows and Northstar stayed true to their opening dates this year. Though, some employees struggle to survive financially while waiting to resume work at the start of a new season.
Employees find themselves short on hours in certain departments and rely on human resources to find the employee a different job for the day.
To further complicate matters, housing costs in the Eastern Sierra have outpaced pay. According to a study by the Tahoe Truckee Community Foundation, roughly three-fourths of residents are paying more than 30 percent of their income for housing.
