Tesla Layoffs Will Impact Staff Near Reno

Layoffs are planned for Tesla's gigafactory near Clark County.

Recently, Tesla announced the company will be cutting 7 percent of staff as it attempts to build more affordable vehicles. KUNR contributor Kaleb Roedel of the Northern Nevada Business View has more.

A Tesla spokesperson confirmed to the NNBV the cuts would affect the Gigafactory in Storey County. However, when asked to reveal specific impacts to employees the spokeswoman declined to share any numbers.

The company delivered more than 245,000 electric cars and SUVs last year, nearly as many as all previous years combined. But it still fell short of a goal set nearly three years ago of manufacturing half a million vehicles for the year.

There are currently 45,000 employees, meaning roughly 3,150 employees will be losing their jobs.
