As University diversity grows, sophomore Shahil Pema among emerging young leaders

An important facet of the University of Nevada, Reno's mission is to reflect and promote diversity in every way possible.

Sophomore ShahilPema, a first-generation student from Las Vegas, is a shining example of the quality of current students on campus as part of the university's record levels of diversity. Pema was the guest of University President Marc Johnson on KUNR's Beyond the Headlines (interviewed by David Stipech; air date 1-22-16).

Pema, who is majoring in biochemistry and immunology,  is a graduate of Rancho High School in North Las Vegas. He first visited the campus through the Nevada Boundrecruitment program.
