Washoe County GOP Officers Resign, Citing Divisions

Squabbling within the Washoe County Republican Party has led to the resignations of all four of its elected officers. Reno Public Radio's Julia Ritchey reports.

Chairman Adam Khan and the vice chair, secretary and treasurer of the Washoe County GOP announced at a party meeting last night that they'd be leaving their positions.

"[T]here was some disagreement on what our main focus should be, and I will say that there are definitely some people who'd rather talk about procedural stuff, and would rather talk about bylaws and what not, than about actually winning elections," says Khan, who's served as chairman for one year.

Tom Dickman, vice chair for three years, concurred.

"Speaking for myself, the condition at the county party, at the moment, is fractured and ineffective," says Dickman. "And basically at this point in time, I've decided to focus my energies in other areas that will be effective to electing Republicans."

He says divisions within the party over its direction and function have been festering.

"This is something that is basically within the Washoe County party with different personalities and different ideas and thoughts on how to operate and run the party, whether or not the party should be vocal on certain issues or be activists in certain personalities."

He and the other board leaders will stay on in their positions until April 26, after the county convention.

"The work we did was done, we had the most successful caucus ever, and we could do more for the party outside of our leadership positions," says Khan.
