Washoe School Board Looking For New Member

Alexa Ard

The Washoe County School Board is looking for a new member to fill a vacant seat. Barbara McLaury told the Reno Gazette-Journal in late January that she was resigning because of health issues.

The board is charged with appointing her replacement and will hold a special public meeting Wednesday night to hear from 12 applicants for the position. During that time, candidates will have the chance to make public comments to the board.

Angie Taylor is board president. She says this is a critical time for the school district and the board wants to do an even better job of gathering input from the community. The board has drawn wide public criticism for breaking the state's open meeting law twice in recent years.

The meeting is Wednesday, March 9, at 5:30 PM in the board chambers at 425 East Ninth Street in Reno. You can find information about the 12 applicants here.
