What Makes You Grateful: Relationships With Dr. Jankovich

Nov 28, 2020

Today is a time to consider what makes you grateful.

Attitudes towards life’s ups and downs is what enables us to feel satisfied. Looking at the glass half-full leads to more peace than seeing it half-empty. Ruminating over things that are out of your control only makes you more upset. Talk around your table today about what went well this year and about your challenges and how you coped with them, the lessons learned. Having had a challenge is not always a bad thing. Challenges are inevitable no matter carefully you live life. It’s more effective to focus on how you managed the challenge than how awful it is that you had to face it at all. Share ideas about the small things in live that bring you peace: a smile, things like the coffee smells good, the cat’s playing with the toy, the leaves are turning color, the pleasure of a hot shower, mastering your smartphone, having time with a friend. We all have more little things rather than big things that could lift our spirits, if we would only notice them.

Dr. Jankovich has been working as a psychologist since 1974. She works with a range of areas, including relationships, depression, anxiety, sleep disorders, grief, trauma, and struggles with life transitions.
