Memory Care Facility Breaks Ground In Carson City

Prestige Care and Carson Tahoe Health recently broke ground on a new skilled nursing and memory care center in Carson City. Our contributor Brook Bentley of the Northern Nevada Business Weekly reports.

The facility, expected to open late next year, will be in a two-story, 88,000 square foot building. There will be 80 skilled nursing beds on the first floor and 54 beds for memory care assisted-living residents on the second floor.

The Truckee Meadows Parks Foundation is giving people with dementia, and their caretakers, the chance to safely enjoy the outdoors through their interpretive “Idlewild Health Walks”. Reno Public Radio’s Marcus Lavergne has more.

Studies show that consistent routines like going to the park can help those suffering from dementia find a sense of independence.

In his documentary Alive Inside, which won the audience award at Sundance last year, Filmmaker Michael Rossato-Bennett captures the joy that music brings to people with dementia. Reno Public Radio’s Michelle Bliss spoke to him. He’ll be in Reno Tuesday for a special screening.
