In Nevada, there's a growing need for medical interpretation and translation services from English to Spanish in local hospitals and clinics. So, how are we keeping up? KUNR’s Jazmin Orozco-Rodriguez reports.

Students from three Reno high schools will compete in a Paiute language competition next week. As Reno Public Radio's Julia Ritchey reports, the students are part of a critical effort to preserve the endangered language.

"I'm going to assign you an animal, and what you're going to do is write clues as to what animal you are..."

Instructor Emma Williams is leading a class of about a dozen students at Spanish Springs High School in a Paiute language lesson based on the Pyramid Lake dialect.

Reno author Mignon Fogarty, a.k.a. Grammar Girl, recently gave a talk for the city’s TEDx program held at the University of Nevada, Reno. It’s the local version of the national Ted Talk program, which shares inspiring discussions from leaders across the globe. Mignon’s topic was language, of course, but instead of focusing on the rules, she highlighted some of the rule-breakers. Reno Public Radio’s Michelle Bliss joined her to learn more.
