Reporter Miller Goes to Jail; Cooper Will Testify

Pulitzer Prize-winning reporter Judith Miller of The New York Times is jailed over her refusal to testify before a grand jury about her sources in the story about a CIA leak. Miller never wrote about the case. Columnist Robert Novak included Plame's name in a column.

Time magazine's Matthew Cooper, who has written about the leaking of covert operative Valerie Plame's name, has agreed to testify. Cooper says he was personally released today from his promise of confidentiality by his source.

In refusing to discuss her confidential source, Miller defied U.S. District Court Judge Thomas Hogan's civil contempt of court citation ordering her to comply.

David Folkenflik was described by Geraldo Rivera of Fox News as "a really weak-kneed, backstabbing, sweaty-palmed reporter." Others have been kinder. The Columbia Journalism Review, for example, once gave him a "laurel" for reporting that immediately led the U.S. military to institute safety measures for journalists in Baghdad.
