The University of Nevada, Reno hosted its first music festival on Saturday. Reno Public Radio's Yama Rongomas was there and has more.
The Biggest Little Festival was sponsored by the Associated Students of the University of Nevada and was held at the intramural fields on campus.
Casandra Hurdle is the director of programming for ASUN. She says getting the festival together has been a long time in the making.
“It actually was an idea that came from last year’s association and the officers last year,” Hurdle says. “To create a music festival, to bring something different. Just something that students haven't really seen before.”
The festival included 11 different musical acts, as well as local artists and vendors. Hurdle says that although the event was part of the university’s welcome week, ASUN hoped to attract more than students.
“We opened it up to the community because we really want to make it something that starts to bridge the gap between the university and the community," she says, "and kind of bring everybody together.”
Although ticket sales were lower than expected, ASUN hopes to make this festival an annual tradition.
