Manager, Business and Operations – KUNR Public Media

KUNR Public Media seeks a Business and Operations Manager for our radio stations and digital outlets in scenic Reno, Nevada. KUNR has been recognized nationally with awards for diversity and innovation. The Business and Operations Manager position is critical to our daily operations, including business, budget, Human Resources, regulatory and technical functions. The position works closely with membership, underwriting and front office staff to establish financial, operational and administrative goals and procedures. This position also sets budget and funding priorities.

The Business and Operations Manager position works closely with station staff and engineers, university personnel, and outside consultants and organizations specializing in program content and support services. This position helps ensure, by proper staff notification and oversight, that all regulatory requirements and deadlines are met. This position also acts as a liaison with the communities where KUNR broadcasts.

This position requires a Bachelor’s Degree and three (3) years of related work experience; OR a Master’s Degree and two (2) years of related work experience.

KUNR Public Radio (KUNR-FM) in sunny Reno, NV is seeking a daily news editor to join our newsroom. The main function of the KUNR Daily News Editor is to collaborate with the News Director on daily news coverage, largely executing newscast content by researching, assigning, editing, and producing spot news coverage. The Daily News Editor will also lead various newsroom projects as assigned by the News Director. The Daily News Editor will supervise interns, freelancers, and partners as assigned.

KUNR is known nationally for its innovative programming, including our award-winning English/Spanish bilingual reporting initiative and our high school KUNR Youth Media program. Additionally, in the past seven years, we’ve trained roughly 40 college reporters. The daily news editor will be a leader in our efforts to train the next generation of journalists while providing vision to our breaking news and spot coverage for a vast listening area.

Democracy Reporter

Democracy Reporter, KUNR Public Radio

KUNR Public Radio in sunny Reno, Nev., is seeking an innovative Democracy Reporter to hit the ground running in a critical swing state. This reporter will be responsible for filing daily spot news and enterprise features across broadcast and digital platforms. This beat is not “business as usual” political reporting. This reporter must be comfortable experimenting with formats and approaches to make politics understandable to everyday people, hold elected officials and candidates accountable, and report on issues related to the accessibility of voting. Along with joining our collaborative and inclusive team, you’ll be in a thriving city with vibrant art and food communities. The region is a recreational paradise located less than an hour from Lake Tahoe and an easy drive from wine country and San Francisco.

With a committed staff of 20, KUNR Public Radio punches well above its weight. Our journalists have won numerous recent Murrow and PMJA awards, in addition to competitive national grants from StoryCorps, ONA, Facebook and AIR for innovative programming and engagement initiatives. KUNR is based at the University of Nevada, Reno and is a unit of UNR’s Reynolds School of Journalism. The station leverages the Reynolds School’s award-winning Noticiero Móvil bilingual news service and other startups to provide more content to the community and to help train the next generation of journalists.

The ideal candidate will have work samples reflecting excellent storytelling, strong interviewing, fact-checking, and writing skills. Also helpful: being fluent in Spanish, being able to manage multiple projects simultaneously, and being able to learn new skills quickly. We welcome print reporters looking to expand their audio skills.
