Nevada Fire Info created the Nevada Wildfire Information Dashboard, which displays the latest wildfire activity and information reported within the state.
Ways to prepare
1. Sign up for alerts
- Visit Ready.gov to sign up for local emergency alerts
- Nevada: Continue to Living With Fire to sign up for county-specific emergency alerts
- California: Continue to Ready.ca.gov to sign up for county-specific emergency alerts
2. Have an evacuation plan
When in doubt, head out — don’t wait to be told to evacuate!
- Visit Ready.gov to create an emergency plan for you and your loved ones ahead of time. Knowing what to pack and where to meet in case of emergency beforehand can make crunch time go more smoothly
- Visit Living With Fire for go-bag and disaster supplies packing checklists and more information and preparedness tips
- Check Watch Duty or your local county sheriff’s department for an updated list of local shelters and evacuation orders
- Visit Perimeter to view evacuation zones and public safety updates from emergency management, including fire, law, and public works officials
3. Create a defensible space
Prepare your home ahead of time to be more fire safe!
- Clear vegetation and flammable materials within 5 feet of your home
- Reduce vegetation and combustibles within 100 feet
- Keep roofs and gutters clean
- Move firewood away from structures and vents
- Apply ignition resistant materials to your home
- Reach out to your local fire agency to set up your defensible space

4. Stay informed with local radio
In the event of an emergency, tune in to KUNR Public Radio for breaking news, alerts, road closures, wildfire updates, and emergency information. We broadcast across all of Northern Nevada and much of Northeastern California as well as the Eastern Sierra. Listen live in Reno at 88.7 FM, 91.5 FM in Elko, or find your local frequency here.
You can also stream KUNR anywhere, anytime: Listen live on KUNR.org, through the KUNR mobile app, or by asking your smart speaker to “Play KUNR.”
