Nevada tourism officials are reaching around the world to attract visitors to Nevada. Our reporter Bob Conrad spoke with one and has the story.

The state held its annual international tourism conference in Reno, and one goal of the conference was to promote Nevada to the rest of the world.

Bethany Drysdale is with the Nevada Department of Tourism and Cultural Affairs, which organized the conference.

“Travel Nevada has representation in 10 global markets, so we have invited journalists from those markets to come here and meet one-on-one with the Nevada tourism industry.”

One country Nevada is paying close attention to is India.

“We just started representation in India last year. That market is set to explode. More than half their population is under the age of 25. As they get older, they’re spending more money. They’re also very wealthy.”

Drysdale says that international travel is crucial to the state’s economy compared with domestic visitors because overseas travelers spend more and have more vacation time. Her department is also entirely funded by dollars spent by people visiting the Silver State.
