Actress/singer Betty Buckley will be performing in Reno on July 9th kicking off Artown’s Summer Soiree under the Stars Music Series.

Buckley’s award-winning career spans nearly five decades and includes stage, film and television work.  Dubbed the Voice of Broadway, she won a Tony Award in 1983 for her role as Grizabella in the original Broadway cast of Cats. You just heard Buckley singing her anthem “Memory” from the musical, which was written by Andrew Lloyd-Weber.

That same year, Buckley appeared in the film Tender Mercies where she played a country music star opposite Robert Duvall. The film was nominated for five Academy Awards including best original song titled “Over You” performed by Buckley for the film’s soundtrack.

Among her many other roles, you may also remember Buckley as Abby Bradford, matriarch of the Bradford clan on the television series Eight is Enough starring opposite the late Dick Van Patton who passed away just last week.

Buckley spoke to Reno Public Radio's Esther Ciammachilli.
